Travel has been a large part of our recent lives. We come from two different countries (Christian: Australia and Sabine: France), and have shared our lives between the two for nearly a decade now.
We still subscribe to the romantic idea of travel: we associate the bags we have owned with the cities and countries we have lived in.

We take our time with each design, spending weeks if not months until it is perfect. And since we tend to gravitate towards the unconventional, sometimes it does take months. We aim to produce designs that are radically different. We have our hand in every step of the process: from idea, to hand-choosing skins, to deciding what stitch is best. Nothing is left unconsidered.
We feel that this is the only way we can justify adding yet another product to an already crowded landscape.

We crave simplicity: we dress that way, our apartment and office look that way, so it's only logical that we design that way too.
We started off with bags, but don't consider that our specialty. We feel that ECSOTYPE should be fluid and have in mind to design other products under its banner. We don't follow the traditional two fashion seasons per year, and instead keep expanding our catalogue one design at a time.

We produce in very small quantities, which keeps our bags precious and a little rare, but enables us to control quality closely. Of course it may mean that our bags are priced higher than a comparable imported product - which may only be cheaper because it was manufactured in a country with very low wages.
